For Putting God First

The most important thing when thinking about your life together now that you are engaged is keeping God first. It can be so easy to think now that you are putting your future spouse first for so many reasons. But none of those reasons are good enough to take your focus off of putting God first because He is worthy, our only Heavenly Father, and blesses our union before it will bless Him.

Verse: Matthew 6:33

But seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness first, and all these things will be added to you.

For Growing Our Relationship

We need to know that if God is for our relationship, he is invested in our relationship to grow and be fruitful. This means that God does want us to win. This is especially true when our hearts are in the right place and we aim to please God.

Verse: 1 Corinthians 3:7
So neither the one who plants nor waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.

For Supporting One Another

It’s critically important that we learn to practice supporting one another while we are still engaged. This is one of several important things to learn before we are married so that we will not try to spend our time trying to learn how to be supportive while our spouse needs it the most. We are engaged; this is the perfect time to work on this.

Verse: Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

For Stress and Anxiety

This is perhaps one of the most important things for couples to address. Stress and anxiety are always challenges in one way or another; however, if not addressed healthily, they can be very challenging. Knowing where our spouse needs support in this area and what will be helpful to them will help you throughout your marriage. Talk about the most challenging areas and keep this before God in your prayer and devotional life for a better result.

Verse: 1 Peter 5:7
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

For Financial Preparation

Financial preparation is another vital area that couples must discuss for a successful marriage. Having a budget, speaking with a financial advisor, and discussing challenging areas will help you to have these things out in the open to address together and be stronger.

Verse: 1 Peter 4:10

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace:

For Wedding Planning

One of the things that can happen during wedding planning is stress increases, and if we are not careful, we will project that stress onto others. We also suffer from this ourselves if we don’t have a healthy way to deal with it. Wedding planning is particularly stressful because of the required kinds of planning. Event planning, financial planning, invitations, wedding ceremony, and design. All of these combined lead to a tremendous amount of stress. But depending on God and praying daily to keep our plans in His hands will help us to move forward.

Verse: Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.

For Blessing Our Marriage

Heavenly Father, we know that you do all things well. You are wonderful in all of your ways. Please bless our marriage according to your grace and mercy. Keep us in your loving arms. Give us peace. Give us understanding. Help us every step of the way. Help us to keep our focus on you and to love one another as your Word has called us to. Help us in the challenging times and give us times of celebration.

Thank you for always answering our prayers and for your loving kindness towards us.

In Jesus name, we pray, Amen
